CITIZENS’ PETITION: AGAINST THE PROPOSED TELECOMMUNICATION TOWER IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF SUTTON

WE, the undersigned residents of Ville de Sutton, Quebec attest that we are in opposition to the installation of a 60-meter Telecommunication Tower on the property of 1111 Chem de la Vallee in Sutton Junction. We call on the Ville de Sutton Council to DENY the application of the aforementioned eye sore.

According to the Radio Communication Act, Industry Canada requires that the Municipality of Sutton and Bell Mobility must consult with citizens and that courts have ruled municipalities have no obligation to allow Cell Towers anywhere within its borders where no substantial gap in coverage exists.

Impacted residents in Sutton Junction require no additional coverage as alternative options are available, and the Municipality of Sutton has no substantial gaps in coverage with the carrier network already in place.

This 60-meter monstrosity is inconsistent with the character of the surrounding region and in direct violation to Sutton’s own Green Plan. We expect the Municipality of Sutton to safeguard against this visual blight to our community’s aesthetics, as well as residential property values, our elevated health risks and that of the diverse wildlife of our region’s distinct ecosystem.

We believe Bell Mobility should be required to explore less intrusive means, alternative locations or alternative technologies, which are currently available elsewhere in Canada.

We therefore oppose the construction of any communications facility, including but not limited to the one proposed by Bell Mobility, and we demand that the Municipality of Sutton intervene and stop the planning, marketing and erection of the Bell Mobility cellular tower.

Pétition citoyenne: contre l’implantation d’une tour de communication de 60 mètres de hauteur sur les terrains de la ville au 1111 Ch. De la Vallée à Sutton Jonction. Nous appelons le conseil municipal de la ville de Sutton à refuser l’implantation d’une telle monstruosité.

Selon le CRTC, Industrie Canada exige que la ville de Sutton et Bell Mobilité ai une consultation citoyenne et qu’il n’y a aucune obligation légale quand à l’adoption d’un tel projet quand une couverture décente existe.

Les résidents de la jonction n’ont nul besoin d’une couverture cellulaire supplémentaire quand d’autres alternatives existent. Et que nulle carence n’est réellement sentie dans la municipalité.

Ce monstre de 60 mètres ne cadre pas avec le caractère local et régional et se trouve être en contradiction avec le Plan Vert de la Ville. Nous entendons que la Ville de Sutton se doit de nous protéger contre de telles horreurs visuelles, à la dévaluation de nos propriétés, aux risques de santé encourus  pour notre environnement distinct et nous-même.

Nous croyons et encourageons Bell Mobilité de trouver des alternatives autres, de rehausser les antennes existantes si nécessaire comme il existe ailleurs au Canada.

Par conséquent nous nous opposons à l’implantation de tours de communications sur notre territoire, et pour la municipalité de Sutton, refuser le projet en cour proposé par Bell Mobilité.
